Exico develops and operates economic development programs for public agencies targeted at the creation and expansion of small businesses. Illustrative of this segment of our practice are the following engagements:
- Minority Business Development Center
Exico operated the Pittsburgh Minority Business Development Center under a contract with the Minority Business Development Agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Under that contract, Exico assisted in the creation and support of over eighty (80) small minority owned businesses annually. We assisted them to acquire over fifteen million dollars ($15 million) in financing and over forty million dollars ($40 million) in contracts.
- Small Business Development Program
Exico developed and operated a small business development program under a contract with Allegheny County. We provided a comprehensive package of management services to over fifty (50) small construction companies annually. The technical assistance provided included construction management training, contract review (provided by the attorneys of Uku & Uku, P.C.), contract financing, surety bonding, business planning and procurement support. These services were provided to small minority and women owned construction companies in Allegheny County.
- Working Capital Loan Program
Exico worked with Allegheny County and Citizens Bank to develop and launch a Working Capital Loan Program to provide contract financing for small, minority and women owned businesses executing contracts with local, state and federal agencies in Allegheny County. This program, which is not driven by credit history, provides lines of credit of up to $100,000 to minority and women contractors collateralized by the accounts receivable generated by their local, state and federal contracts. This program has one of the lowest default rates in the financial services industry in the United States. |
